Expect delays along stretch of Bellingham’s Woburn Street for work on city’s new building
Traffic delays are possible this month on Woburn Street north of Lakeway Drive while work continues on a storage building for the Public Works and Parks and Recreation departments.
One lane was open with flaggers allowing alternating north-south traffic on Woburn near Lakeway on Monday.
“Travelers may expect to see extra traffic impacts from this project over the next two weeks, primarily due to temporary one-lane closures,” Public Works Department spokeswoman Stefanie Cilinceon told The Herald.
Cilinceon said there will be “a more significant closure for a few days” so workers can pour concrete for a raised crosswalk.
“We should have a better sense of the timeline for that next week when the contractor begins scheduling the sidewalk work,” Cilinceon said in an email.
Construction began in July 2024 with demolition of the former Parks and Recreation offices at the site, which is near the GardenView tiny homes village. The new building will provide bulk storage and nursery space.
Crosswalks on Woburn and Old Woburn are part of the project and are being included to provide safer bike and pedestrian access to Bayview Cemetery, which is managed by Parks and Recreation.
