With mountain snow likely with a looming string of storms, Washington Department of Transportation has closed the road to Artist Point for the winter as of Wednesday, Oct. 16.

Artist Point is a popular summertime tourist destination and starting point for several Mount Baker area hikes.

It is located at the east end of Mount Baker Highway, the last 2.7 miles of which has been closed, according to a WSDOT social media post.

Mount Baker Highway is closed annually about 3 miles below Artist Point — near Heather Meadows base at Mt. Baker Ski Area — after the first significant snowfall.
