Crews will begin replacing roundabout at Slater Road/I-5 interchange Monday morning
Detours will be in place as crews begin work on a state roundabout replacement project near Ferndale at 8 a.m. Monday, July 29. The roundabout is at the Slater Road/Interstate 5 interchange north of Bellingham.
Crews will remove the existing roundabout and install a larger, two-lane roundabout on Slater Road between Rural Avenue and I-5, according to a WSDOT press release that included the following work schedule:
- From 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. Monday, July 29 and Tuesday, July 30, the southbound I-5 off-ramp to Slater Road will close for intersection improvements.
- From 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, the Slater Road on-ramp to southbound I-5 will close these intersection improvements.
Mid-September, drivers should expect a continuous two-week closure of the southbound I-5 on- and off-ramps at Slater Road. Signed detours will guide people around the ramp closures.
Drivers also should expect nightly single-lane closures on southbound I-5 between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. throughout until construction completes in early 2025.
