Traffic delays are expected in Ferndale from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, near Main Street and Hovander Road.

One to two lanes of Main Street, including the sidewalks, will be closed while BNSF workers inspect the railway bridge over the road, the city of Ferndale announced in a news release.

From approximately 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. the eastbound lane and sidewalk will be closed, and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. it will be the westbound lane and sidewalk.

The road will be closed so inspectors can get underneath safely, Northwest Safety Signs general manager Jessica Brearley told The Bellingham Herald.

Traffic on Main Street will be shifted through the closed zone, and flaggers will assist to ease congestion.

While the left turn from Main Street to Hovander will be open to most vehicles, it will be closed to large trucks, which will have to loop through downtown and approach the turn from the west, the release states.

The right turn from Hovander to Main may be closed at times.

The sidewalks in the work zone will be closed, with signs up to direct foot traffic around the work zone.
