Update: Southbound I-5 traffic resumes after crash involving car hauler, van near Ferndale
A traffic collision reported around 2:50 p.m. Tuesday blocked all lanes of southbound traffic on I-5 near Portal Way in Ferndale. Traffic finally resumed through the area around 5:15 p.m. after the scene had been cleared.
Motorists were encouraged to seek alternate routes. Fire and Washington State Patrol were the initial responders.
“A car hauler was traveling too fast while attempting to enter I-5 southbound from Portal Way, causing it to tip over and slide across the Interstate in front of traffic when a van traveling south on I-5 struck the hauler,” Trooper Kelsey Harding, who serves as public information officer for WSP, stated on Twitter.
The driver of the van suffered non-life-threatening injuries, while the driver of the car hauler reported no injuries.
I-5 traffic was backed up for several miles north of Ferndale.
