Seattle man killed in pedestrian collision with car in Bellingham
A pedestrian died after a collision with a car Sunday in Bellingham.
Killed was 85-year-old Gerald M. Saltzman from Seattle. The accident occurred around 8:47 p.m. Oct. 22 in the 100 block of North Samish Way.
The man was walking across the street, not in a crosswalk, and it was too dark for the driver of the car to see him, according to Bellingham Police Lt. Claudia Murphy. The driver of the vehicle stopped the car and remained at the scene.
There was no evidence to suggest alcohol, drugs or speeding were contributing factors to the collision, Murphy said.
Bellingham Fire Department Medics transported Saltzman to the emergency room at Saint Joseph’s Hospital. Police were notified later that the man died of his injuries around 11 p.m.
This is the second fatal collision involving a pedestrian in the 100 block of Samish Way this year, the first being on Feb. 20.
