Man killed in traffic collision after swerving to miss hitting an elk, State Patrol says

A man was killed in a single-vehicle crash Friday morning after he swerved to avoid hitting an elk on the road and struck a utility pole on State Route 20 east of Hamilton in Skagit County.

The 29-year-old victim’s name was not immediately released.

The accident happened about 5:30 a.m. as the victim’s car was westbound.

The Washington State Patrol said the man was not wearing a seat belt, according to a press release.
