I-5 wreck creates 3-mile backup in Bellingham Friday night

A collision blocking the left lane of Interstate 5 northbound just south of Iowa Street in Bellingham created a 3-mile backup on the freeway, according to a Washington State Department of Transportation tweet.

Medical aid, fire assistance, and the Washington State Patrol arrived on the scene of the 4:53 p.m. incident, according to the state patrol.

“Expect lengthy delays,” WSDOT said.

Traffic began to flow again at 5:47 p.m., according to the state patrol.
