Bellingham man injured in Interstate 5 wreck that stopped traffic Saturday afternoon

The Bellingham Herald

A 50-year-old Bellingham man was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after the 2000 Ford Econoline van he was driving struck a tree on the side of southbound Interstate 5 Saturday afternoon, Sept. 10, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Southbound traffic south of Alger was stopped for the collision that blocked the right lane at Bow Hill Road, according to a 4:18 p.m. Tweet from the Washington State Department of Transportation.

The state reported all lanes were open at 5:36 p.m.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Jacob Kennett posted on social media that it was a single-vehicle rollover collision that resulted in a serious injury. “Airlift is in route for the occupant and will be landing on the Interstate,” he posted on Twitter.

The reason the vehicle left the road is not known, according to the state patrol.
