Traffic

These races, construction may slow traffic in Bellingham the week of July 16

Runners and road work may cause traffic that slows drivers this week in Whatcom County. Here’s a look at spots to watch, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

Expect to see Ragnar relay runners continue from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. into Saturday, July 16, along several roads from Blaine into Skagit and Island counties, including Birch Bay Drive, Grandview Road, Smith Road, Northwest Avenue, State Street, Old Fairhaven Parkway, and Samish Way. The run ends in Langley. The course map is available here.

Chuckanut Foot Race runners will be on State Route 11, Chuckanut Drive, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 16. The northbound shoulder between Old Samish Road and California Street will be closed. Officers will flag traffic at the south end of the Interurban Trail and at the south entrance of Larrabee State Park. The seven-mile, point-to-point race starts at Marine Park in Fairhaven and finishes at Larrabee State Park, mostly on the Interurban Trail.

The left lane of southbound Interstate 5 just south of the Bow weigh station will be closed south of Bellingham for the Samish River Bridge deck overlay project from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. Monday, July 18, and from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, through Friday, July 22. The left lane will remain open.
