Multi-car crash closes southbound I-5 in Bellingham at Sunset Monday

Both lanes of southbound Interstate 5 in Bellingham were closed just south of Sunset Drive due to a four- to five-car crash Monday afternoon, according to unconfirmed emergency radio broadcasts.

As of 3:30 p.m., one lane appeared to have been reopened to traffic, though crews remained on the scene. All lanes were opened at 4:20 p.m. according to a Washington State Patrol news release.

Bellingham Fire Department crews were called to the traffic collision at 2:42 p.m. Oct. 11, according to the PulsePoint app.

Emergency radio broadcasts at the time said there was a least one injury in the crash.

All southbound traffic initially was being routed off of the freeway at Sunset Drive, according to broadcasts.

Washington State Department of Transportation and the Washington State Patrol also were called to the scene, according to broadcasts.
