Shooting near University of Washington leaves 1 injured

Seattle police were looking for a man suspected of shooting and injuring someone near the University of Washington campus Thursday morning, according to the university.

The shooting happened near the corner of Northeast 45th Street and University Way, where Raising Cane's and the Seattle Bouldering Project are located. The two roads were temporarily blocked off while police investigated.

The person who was shot was taken to Harborview Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, said Harborview spokesperson Susan Gregg.

Police on Thursday asked people to avoid the area and to look out for the suspected shooter, who had not been found as of Thursday morning.

The man suspected in the shooting is described as wearing a black sweatshirt, black pants and black shoes, and was last seen leaving the area going north, the university said.

Anyone who might have witnessed the shooting or knows anything about the suspected shooter or the shooting is advised to call the Seattle Police Department violent crime tip line at 206-233-5000.
