Person in critical condition after rescue from Lake Washington
A person was in critical condition Tuesday after they reportedly jumped off the dock at Seattle's Mount Baker Beach and didn't resurface, according to the Seattle Fire Department.
Rescue swimmers responded to reports of a missing person last seen jumping into Lake Washington around 3:45 p.m., the Fire Department said. The rescue swimmers found the missing person and brought them to shore for medical care, where paramedics took over.
The person was taken to a hospital.
The Fire Department warns swimmers that Washington waters are often cold enough to weaken muscles, posing a danger to even the strongest swimmers. Anything below 77 degrees can affect breathing, according to the National Center for Cold Water Safety. The most recent sampled surface temperature at Mount Baker Beach, according to King County data, was 73 degrees.
