Seattle weather: A slow creep up to 90 degrees before World Cup
Someone's slowly dialing up the thermostat in Seattle. At a certain point, you're going to notice.
On Monday, the first day of the FIFA Men's World Cup in Seattle, when Egypt and Belgium come to town, temperatures are projected to reach 91 degrees, said National Weather Service meteorologist Dana Felton.
Coming off some cloudy weather, gusts and showers, temperatures were still nice and comfy in the upper 60s at their highest Wednesday.
Now, summerlike weather is back in session.
The skies will be bright and sunny through the weekend, Felton said. The high Thursday will creep up to 71 degrees, Friday to 72 and Saturday to 77 before jumping to 85 Sunday and 91 Monday, which stands to set a record high for June 15.
That's when you notice you're really sweating and tell the little thermostat elf to knock it off - he's gotten too greedy.
An upper level ridge offshore is going to start building Friday and nose into British Columbia over the weekend, while a thermal trough moves up the coastline at the lower levels on Saturday night, turning our low level flow offshore, Felton said.
In more plain words: It's going to get warm. Really warm.
And be careful cooling off in rivers or lakes. The water is still chilly and you can get cold shock plunging in it.
On top of double-checking contamination levels at beaches before you swim, know that there are new drowning hazards in local rivers after December's catastrophic flooding changed their anatomy.
