Alaska Airlines resuming nonstop flights from Paine Field to Portland
When commercial service began at Paine Field in March 2019, Alaska Airlines' Portland flight was the very first flight out of the airport. Now, the airline is bringing back its nonstop service to Portland starting Wednesday.
The first flight departs from Paine Field at 12:33 p.m. Wednesday and will be offered once daily, year-round, according to an announcement by the airline in December. Northbound flights will leave Portland International Airport daily at 10:52 a.m.
Alaska paused its Portland flights in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and briefly tried bringing them back in 2022, but ultimately put the route on hold as demand was still not enough at the time to support service, according to an airline spokesperson.
"We are excited for the return of this route because our new schedule design at Portland will now allow guests departing Paine Field to connect through PDX to far more destinations than was possible when we previously served the route," according to the airline, which will serve more than 65 nonstop destinations out of PDX this year.
"We're thrilled that Alaska is bringing Portland service back to Paine Field," said Brett Smith, CEO of Propeller Airports, which owns and operates Paine Field's commercial terminal, in a December news release. "Guests have been asking for this route to return, and we're excited that our customers will have a fast, easy, and reliable option that links two of the Pacific Northwest's most important economic and cultural hubs."
Alaska previously launched a new daily, year-round service between Bellingham and Portland in March. The airline will also begin twice-daily, year-round flights between Pasco and Portland on Wednesday. A daily, year-round service between Wenatchee and Portland is set to debut in October.
