Auburn cop arrested for immorally communicating with child, police say

An Auburn police officer was arrested for investigation of felony immoral communication with a minor, according to the Pierce County sheriff's office.

The officer, arrested Friday morning, is now on administrative leave pending the filing of formal charges, according to a news release from the sheriff's office. The officer has not been charged with a crime.

Auburn police Chief Mark Caillier was notified by investigators and facilitated having deputies take the officer into custody at the police station, according to the release.

Our duty as officers is to ensure the safety and well-being of the public, especially children," Caillier said in the release. This officer has broken that trust, and this incident will be handled as promptly as possible, while still ensuring that due process is followed."

The officer was booked into the Pierce County Jail.
