2 killed in Highway 509 crash after driver goes wrong direction
Two people were killed in a head-on collision near Seattle's South Park neighborhood when a driver went the wrong direction on Highway 509 Sunday night, police say.
A 21-year-old man from Kent was driving the wrong way on southbound Highway 509 near South 112th Street when he crashed into a car going the opposite way around 9:45 p.m., according to the Washington State Patrol.
The 21-year-old was killed along with the driver of the other car, a 71-year-old man from Seattle, WSP said.
The roadway was blocked for more than five hours after one car came to rest in the roadway and the other in the shoulder of the road, WSP said.
It's unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident.
