Fourth of July celebrations set for Skagit County

Although the country's 250th anniversary has been celebrated for months, the official birthday arrives Saturday, with multiple events in Skagit County to mark the occasion.

ANACORTES

In Anacortes, events will take place all day.

Festivities will begin at 10 a.m. with a town photo and patriotic program at the intersection of Commercial Avenue and 5th Street.

At 11 a.m., the city's Fourth of July Parade will proceed along Commercial Avenue from 3rd Street to 10th Street.

The day's events continue at 5 p.m. with the Port of Anacortes' Rock the Dock event at Seafarers' Memorial Park.

Rock the Dock is a free concert featuring live performances by Seattle-based Queen tribute band Queen Mother and Western Washington-based Dana Osborn Band.

The performances will be accompanied by local food and beverages for sale.

Fireworks will be shown over Fidalgo Bay at about 10 p.m.

CONCRETE

Concrete's festivities will begin at 3 p.m. with a parade traveling west on Main Street from downtown Concrete to Silo Park.

A party will be held at Silo Park at 3:30 p.m., or as soon as the parade arrives.

The party will include a patriotic sing-along, free American flags for photos, food and beverages, and access to the recently opened bike pump track.

LA CONNER

La Conner's Fourth of July celebration will begin at noon with a parade on First Street in downtown La Conner, where many local businesses will offer promotional deals.

At 5 p.m., the Port of Skagit and the town of La Conner's A Hometown Celebration will begin at La Conner Marina, with food, beer and a wine garden on site.

Thirty minutes later, local musicians will perform a concert.

The concert will begin with sing-along classics led by Anacortes-based musician Steve Johnson, followed by blues from Anacortes-based Bluesfish, and classic rock and Motown from the featured act, Mama Dirty Skirt, a Skagit County-based band.

At about 10 p.m., a fireworks show will begin.

MOUNT VERNON

Mount Vernon's festivities begin at 8 p.m. at Skagit Riverwalk Park in downtown Mount Vernon with live music from Arlington-based band Criminal Squirrel Orchestra.

Sweet treats will be available on-site for purchase from a Kona Ice shaved-ice truck.
