North Cascades wildfires remain small
The four wildfires burning in the North Cascades National Park Service Complex remain small.
According to a Monday news release from the National Park Service, the Little Beaver Fire is about 1 acre, the Borderline Fire about a half-acre, and the Rigby and View fires both about one-10th of an acre.
According to the Park Service, the fires were caused by lightning strikes on Wednesday.
They are north of Little Beaver Creek and west of Ross Lake in steep, rough and forested terrain.
The Monday news release stated that on Sunday six firefighters were boated up Ross Lake to hike into the area of the Little Beaver Fire.
Firefighters on that fire will continue to be supported by water from a Type-3 helicopter until pumps and hoses are in place.
Firefighters have left the area of the Borderline Fire following work over the past few days to control the fire. Six smokejumpers were inserted into the area on Friday for suppression efforts.
The Rigby and View fires continue to be supported by water delivered by helicopters.
On Sunday, the Rigby Fire received 13 cycles of water from a Type-3 helicopter.
There was no smoke observed Sunday from the View Fire. Air reconnaissance will continue and water will be used as needed.
According to Monday's news release, a cool weather pattern will continue throughout the week with occasional showers.
There was a slight chance of lightning Monday and Tuesday.
A gradual shift to warmer temperatures and drier conditions is expected by the weekend.
There are no new closures or evacuations in place because of the fires.
All visitor and information centers, campgrounds and trails are open to the public.
Visitors should be aware of fire activity and check the complex's Fire Closures webpage prior to a visit.
Fire restrictions in the complex went into effect Monday.
Campfires or the ignition of wood, briquettes, or any fuel in fire pits, fire pans and barbecue grills are banned throughout the complex.
Gas or propane stoves, grills or lanterns are permitted in campgrounds and wilderness areas for cooking if there is no flammable material within three feet of the device.
