Kiwanis Club of Kelso Longview awards over $18K in scholarships

The Kiwanis Club of Kelso Longview has awarded $18,500 in scholarships to Cowlitz and Wahkiakum counties students.

The club emphasizes grades, community service and leadership when deciding the recipients, according to a notice from the club.

The $1,000 Dave Spencer Memorial scholarships were awarded to Julia Barella, Samantha Toney and Megan Fugleberg from Mark Morris High School; Briana Garwood from R.A. Long High School; Keira McGinley from Three Rivers Christian; Audry Morton from Wahkiakum High School; and Rain DeLeon, Adisyn Cox and Victoria Miranda-Moreno from Kelso High School.

The club's $1,000 vocational scholarships were awarded to Bryce Farquhar from Mark Morris; Fernanda Verdugo Morales from R.A. Long; Evan Chisholm from Three Rivers Christian; Camren Mendez from Wahkiakum; Blake Larwick from Kelso; and home-schooled student Samual Thomas.

Key Club scholarships of $1,000 each were awarded to Jinn Namkung from Three Rivers Christian; Parker Leitz from Wahkiakum; and Jordyn Robarge from Kelso High School. These Kiwanis-sponsored high schools clubs help students develop strong community ties and leadership skills.

A $500 scholarship was also donated to the LCC scholarship fund, allowing its committee to decide the recipient.
