3 sent to the hospital after I-5 crash in Kalama

Three people were sent to Longview's PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center after a two-vehicle crash on the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 in Kalama on Thursday evening.

The collision occurred around 9:37 p.m., near milepost 32, a short distance from Camp Kalama RV Park, when a Dodge allegedly struck the rear of the Jeep.

The cause of the collision was reported as "following too close," according to a Washington State Patrol press memo.

Driver Shaquille O. Piper, 34, of Vancouver, was heading south in a 2006 Dodge Sprinter van when he reportedly hit driver Tony W. Mabry, 67, of Vancouver, and his passenger, Shawna M. Mabry, 65, of Vancouver, in a green 2007 Jeep Wrangler, also headed south.

Everyone involved in the crash was wearing their seatbelts and transported to the hospital for undisclosed injuries.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
