Independent congressional candidate to host town hall in Dayton

Nate Powell, an independent candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington's 5th Congressional District, will host a town hall Monday, June 15, in Dayton.

The event will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Buckwheat Brewing Company, 148 E. Main St., as part of Powell's district-wide town hall tour across eastern Washington.

Powell is a Spokane firefighter and a Marine veteran. He is one of 11 candidates across the political spectrum challenging freshman U.S. Rep. Michael Baumgartner for his seat in 2026.

According to a press release shared by his campaign manager, the event will focus on issues affecting working people across eastern Washington, including the rising cost of living, economic pressures on small businesses and family farms, access to rural health care, and government accountability.

"This campaign is about showing up in places D.C. ignores, listening directly to those silenced voices, and building a government that answers to families instead of corporate interests," Powell wrote in the release.

Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions directly and learn about Powell's vision for the district. The event is free and open to the public.
