Washington State Department of Transportation reported the closure in both directions at 7:38 a.m.

WSDOT gave another update at 9 a.m., but no estimated time to reopen was provided.

The ferry on the Columbia River between Puget Island in Wahkiakum County and Westport in Clatsop County is running back-to-back passages until the vehicles waiting in line on both sides have cleared, according to Wahkiakum County Public Works staff at about 11:40 a.m.

Typically, the ferry departs Puget Island every hour between 5 a.m. and 10 p.m. for the 12-minute passage.

Westport is about 30 minutes west of Rainier.

The Rainier City Library has delayed opening Thursday due to the closure, and did not give an exact time it will open on its Facebook page.
