Lewis County Master Gardeners offer two free workshops on June 13
The WSU Extension Lewis County Master Gardeners are hosting two free educational workshops on Saturday, June 13.
These classes offer something for gardeners of all ages and experience levels, according to a news release from the Master Gardeners.
-Year-Round Vegetable Gardening Workshop, Salkum Timberland Library, 10 a.m.: This hands-on workshop will help keep vegetable gardens producing beyond the typical growing season, and will cover succession planting, season extension techniques such as row covers and cold frames, and how to select crops suited for continuous harvests.
-Butterfly Science Class for Kids, Providence Place Demo Garden, Chehalis, 10 a.m.: Young gardeners ages 4 to 10 are invited to explore the world of butterflies. Kids will discover how butterflies got their name, how they breathe, smell, taste and drink, and what makes up a butterfly's body, the release stated. They'll also learn to identify different butterfly caterpillars. Each child will make a butterfly puddler to take home and receive a parting gift. Parent or guardian attendance is required.
Pre-registration for the Year-Round Vegetable Gardening Workshop is recommended three to four days in advance to ensure adequate materials and space. Confirmation is not required for attendance.
Pre-registration is required for the Butterfly Science Class to ensure enough materials and space for all participants.
To register for either event, call 360-740-1212 or email julie.pirtle@lewiscountywa.gov, Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Both workshops are free and open to the public.
