Chestnut Fire in Chelan Butte contained after burning over 1,000 acres

The Chestnut Fire burning on Chelan Butte was contained Monday afternoon after scorching more than 1,000 acres.

The fire was reported Saturday morning on Chelan Butte, about 1.5 miles south of Chelan Falls, prompting evacuation notices that were lifted Monday afternoon.

No structures were damaged and there were no reports of injuries.

State resources were called in to assist with the fire, including the state Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Forest Service.

The fire burned 1,089 acres, according to DNR spokesman Ryan Rodruck.

He added that crews were still working on mop-up and monitoring the edges of the fire trail.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it was determined to be human-caused, Rodruck said.
