Taste of Pybus fundraiser delights with live music and local flavors
From the sizzling smells of freshly prepared dishes to the sound of live music echoing through the patio, Taste of Pybus transformed Pybus Public Market into a full sensory experience Thursday evening.
The event, aimed at fundraising for the Pybus Foundation, brought more than 100 guests and featured food and drinks from vendors inside Pybus.
"When there's an opportunity like this to gather, as a community - see all the different vendors that are here, and also other community members that have things that they're auctioning tonight, and to raise money for this incredible event ... It made sense," said Cammy Vasquez, owner of Wild Flora and Pybus' newest tenant.
Throughout the event, attendees walked through a sampling of dishes from the vendors and had the opportunity to bid during a silent auction and in a live auction that followed.
The silent auction featured a variety of items and experiences donated by local businesses and community members, ranging from date-night packages to a getaway package at 12 Tribes Lake Chelan Casino. Together, the auctions helped raise thousands of dollars for the Pybus Foundation.
For many attendees, the event was not only about supporting the foundation, but also about celebrating the local businesses and people that make the market a community hub.
"I think anytime we, again, that's what makes a great community. When you think about it, it's everyone coming together to support, and when we can support a nonprofit like the Pybus Market, and so that they continue to give back to our community in such a meaningful way, that I feel like I'm a part of that," Vasquez said. "We're a part of that, and that's important for a thriving community like Wenatchee."
She added that the event showcased the collaborative spirit that defines Wenatchee. In addition to attending the fundraiser, Vasquez also created the floral arrangements displayed throughout the event space.
Vasquez recently partnered with Pybus to bring Wild Flora into the market through a floral vending machine concept that will allow customers to purchase fresh bouquets directly inside the market. She said being part of the event felt especially meaningful as a new tenant.
"We're so lucky and blessed to have this market right on the river," Vasquez said. "The music's great, the flow of everything is really great and it's been done so beautifully."
Attendees spent the evening moving from booth to booth, often balancing plates and drinks while stopping to talk with vendors and fellow guests. The atmosphere remained lively as live music filled the patio area and guests continued sampling dishes late into the evening.
Among Vasquez's favorite items of the night were a Bloody Mary from The Huck at Pybus, charcuterie from The Cheesemonger Shop and desserts from Café Columbia. She also highlighted a lavender cheese she discovered during the event as one of the standout bites of the evening.
Food-centered events like Taste of Pybus continue to draw community members looking for both a social evening and an opportunity to support local businesses. For attendees, the event offered a chance to experience a little bit of everything the market has to offer in one evening.
"I'm a foodie, and I love a good snack," Vasquez said. "We just have such great, I think, chefs and restaurants. To come and mingle and listen to food and drink some different drinks and, I mean, who wouldn't want that?"
