Small airplane makes emergency landing on state Highway 14 in Vancouver
A small plane had to make an emergency landing on state Highway 14 on Saturday afternoon just east of Pearson Field.
The plane landed on the eastbound lanes of Highway 14 near SE Marine Park Way, about a mile east of the airport and came to rest on the right shoulder of the highway. The incident happened around 12:30 p.m.
Trooper Dakota Russell of the Washington State Patrol reported on social media that "the plane did not hit any vehicles and there are not injuries to those onboard."
Vancouver Fire reported that the aircraft experienced a mechanical issue shortly after departing Pearson Field. The pilot safely executed an emergency landing on Highway 14 and taxied onto the shoulder, out of the flow of traffic.
The pilot was the sole occupant, Vancouver Fire said.
The eastbound lanes of state Highway 14 were closed briefly while the plane was cleared from the highway.
Emergency vehicles led the airplane back onto state Highway 14 east as it taxied to the exit at SE Shorewood Drive. The airplane caravan then crossed state Highway 14 on Shorewood and returned westbound on state Highway 14 back to Pearson Field.
