Lacey man arrested in Bremerton for posing as off-duty Edmonds police detective
A Lacey man was arrested on Sept. 5 in Bremerton after he showed up to an active police scene pretending to be an off-duty Edmonds police detective.
According to a social media post from the Bremerton Police Department, the 49-year-old Lacey man was arrested at 6:30 a.m. last Friday the 800 block of Sixth Street in Bremerton. He had arrived at the active police scene in an unmarked Ford Explorer with activated blue police lights.
The man identified himself as an off-duty Edmonds police detective and was wearing body armor with “POLICE” and “SWAT” logos, as well as a metallic Edmonds Police badge.
A follow-up investigation occurred, according to the post, and Bremerton police learned the man was not an Edmonds police officer, but a security guard for a nearby business. They also learned he had been committing law enforcement acts in the downtown corridor.
Police also learned the man was a convicted felon and, when being taken into custody, he was armed with a firearm and in possession of a large amount of police equipment.
The man was booked into the Kitsap County Jail for first-degree criminal impersonation and unlawful possession of a firearm, second degree.
Bremerton police urge anyone who has had suspicious encounters with this person where he was impersonating a police officer to call Bremerton Police at 360-473-5220, and reference case number B25-004721.
