A man crossing the street in a wheelchair was hit by a car, Washington officials said.

The 37-year-old was attempting to cross the street in his wheelchair around 10 p.m. on Aug. 2, according to an Aug. 3 news release from the Seattle Police Department.

The man was crossing in a non-crossing area when he was hit by the 44-year-old Honda driver, police said.

When cops arrived at the scene with Seattle Fire personnel, they found the man trapped underneath the Honda, police said.

Seattle Fire officials were able to free the man from underneath the car and he was sent to Harborview Medical Center to treat “significant injuries,” the release said.

Police said the driver showed no signs of impairment, according to the release.

An update on the condition of the man hit was not provided.
