A search continued for a fourth day Tuesday for a Tacoma man who fell into the Skykomish River near Sunset Falls on Friday, the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Department said.

“Our search-and-rescue drone is back out there today to resume searching,” said Courtney O’Keefe, director of communications at Snohomish County Sheriff’s Department. “Search and rescue plans to be out again tomorrow if he’s not located today.”

A woman called police about 9:20 p.m. after her husband, 40, slipped and fell into the river just off U.S. 2.

Snohomish County Sheriff’s Department search and rescue along with rescue swimmers searched for multiple hours the night of the man’s disappearance, the Sheriff’s Department said.

Search efforts continued on Saturday and Sunday with the use of a swiftwater rescue team, overhead drones and underwater cameras, the Sheriff’s Department said.

A shoe and sweatpants thought to belong to the man were located downstream, but the man remains missing, the Sheriff’s Department said.

Other people have gone missing in recent years at the falls. A man and woman fell into the South Fork of the Skykomish River in separate instances and were never recovered in June 2017.

With a 104-foot vertical drop and 275-foot granite chute, Sunset Falls is the largest of three significant falls on the South Fork of the Skykomish River.
