A Florida company recalled three of its ‘sexual enhancement products’

Drugs sold by a company based in a Tampa house and marketed as “sexual enhancement products” have been recalled. But the problem isn’t that they don’t work.

Rather, Pure Vitamins and Natural Supplements’ recalled Red Bull Extreme and Blue Bull Extreme’s labels don’t tell the user that they have sildenafil, and Boner Bear Honey’s label doesn’t say anything about having sildenafil and tadalafil.

Sildenafil is erectile dysfunction drug Viagra’s active ingredient. Tadalafil is what makes ED drug Cialis work. Neither should be in over-the-counter supplements.

FDA approval of Viagra and Cialis is restricted to use under the supervision of a licensed health care professional,” Pure Vitamins’ recall notice admits. “These undeclared ingredients may interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs, such as nitroglycerin, and may lower blood pressure to dangerous levels. People with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart disease often take nitrates.”

Pure Vitamins and Natural Supplements admits it isn’t the manufacturer, but the distributor. State and Hillsborough County records say the company is based out of a house owned by company CEO Dr. Karim Issa, who gave up his Florida medical license in 2006 but remains licensed in New Jersey.

Return the recalled supplements to the seller for a full refund. Direct questions to Pure Vitamins at 800-362-4772, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Eastern time, or sales@purevitaminsusa.com.

If these supplements cause a medical problem, go to a medical professional first. Then, notify the FDA’s MedWatch Adverse Event reporting program.
