Pouches of produce snacks sold at Walgreens recalled for elevated lead levels

SEPT. 24 UPDATE: Sprouts Organic added three lots to the one lot recalled earlier this month.

Four lots of organic snacks in a pouch have been recalled from Walgreens stores and independent grocers in the South for “elevated levels of lead.”

That’s from Sprout Organic’s recall notice for 3.5-ounce pouches Sweet Potato Apples & Spinach. Sprout said routine testing revealed the problem.

“The effects of lead depend upon the amount and duration of exposure and age/body weight,” the recall notice said. “If a child is exposed to enough lead for a protracted period of time, this can affect learning and development or cause other long-term health problems.”

This covers lot Nos. 4212, expiration date 10/29/2025; 4213, expiration date 10/30/2025; 4282, expiration date 12/4/2025; and, 4310, expiration date 2/4/2026.

No other large chain besides Walgreens sold the recalled lots, which was sold mostly from September through December 2024.

Return any recalled pouches for a refund or at least throw them in the garbage. To get questions answered, call 510-833-6089, Monday through Friday, noon to 8 p.m., Eastern time, or email Info@sproutorganics.com.
