Voters selecting candidates for office in primary races across Whatcom County have until 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, to turn in their ballots at one of nine available election drop boxes. (The Everson and Meridian Middle School ballot boxes are closed.)
No postage stamp is needed at the drop boxes, but people who will mail their ballot must affix a 49-cent stamp and should drop it in the mail no later than Monday, Aug. 3.
Depending on a voter’s residence, the primary ballot includes races for Bellingham School Board, Whatcom County Council, Port of Bellingham commission, Ferndale mayor and city council, and Blaine School Board. Voters in the South Fork Valley are deciding an emergency medical services levy.
The top-two vote getters in the primary advance to the Nov. 3 general election.
Ballot returns as of 4 p.m. Thursday, July 30, were 14,068 out of 102,288 ballots issued, or 14 percent. Voter turnout in the last odd-year primary in 2013 was 22 percent.
