Just a few days left to mark your Whatcom County presidential primary ballot

Fourteen candidates remain on Washington’s Tuesday presidential primary ballot, but just four are still in the race.

Your ballot, which does not need a stamp, must be in an official drop box or mailed and postmarked by 8 p.m. March 10. You can still register to vote and get a ballot in person at the county auditor’s office anytime before 8 p.m. election day.

You can check your voting status online at voter.votewa.gov.

Both the Democratic and Republican candidates will appear on a single ballot but you can only vote for one candidate. Your vote will count only if the candidate you vote for matches the political party you declare on the outside of the return envelope.

Thirteen Democrats are on the ballot, but most have suspended their campaigns. Continuing to campaign are Vice President Joe Biden, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard. Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren ended her campaign Thursday, March 5.

Only President Donald Trump is on the Republican ballot.

Democrats are deciding 89 delegates to the national convention July 13-16 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Elected officials and party leaders select the state’s 18 other delegates.

Republicans will send 44 delegates, awarded proportionally, to the national convention July 13-16 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

It’s the first of two primaries in Washington state this year.

There also will be a Top 2 primary Aug. 4 where voters will choose candidates for non-presidential races to be on the Nov. 3 general election ballot.

More information is available at the website of the Washington Secretary of State’s Office.
