Public and private schools must report their vaccination rates to the state Department of Health. Rates at Whatcom County school vary greatly, from two small schools having all students fully vaccinated to Beach Elementary, which had 43 percent of its students not fully vaccinated in the 2013-14 school year, the latest year full data is available.
Most parents cite personal reasons for exempting their child from certain vaccinations. A small number of students at most schools are not vaccinated because of their medical conditions. The number of religious exemptions at most schools also was fairly low.
