Irish Police Hunt Jamey Carney Person of Interest–But Don't Release Profile
Police are searching for a "significant person of interest" after upgrading an investigation into the death of an American woman in Ireland to murder, according to reports.
Jamey Carney, 43, was found dead in her home in Killarney on Tuesday, The Irish Times and other outlets reported. According to the newspaper, Carney was from Westchester County, New York, but had lived in Killarney since 2021. She reportedly lived in a rented home with her 13-year-old daughter.
She sustained head injuries in an attack that occurred on Monday night or early Tuesday in her home, the newspaper reported. The investigation into her death was upgraded to a murder inquiry following a post-mortem examination.
Irish police are looking for a man described as a "person of significant interest" to the murder investigation, RTE reported early Thursday. But police told the outlet that for legal reasons, they cannot comment in detail about his age, name or nationality.
Authorities have alerted ports and airports for the person of interest who may try to leave Ireland, possibly to the United Kingdom, according to the outlet.
State Department officials on Wednesday confirmed the death of an American in Kerry, Ireland, a day earlier.
“The Trump Administration has no higher priority than the safety and security of Americans,” a State Department spokesperson told Newsweek in a statement, adding that the agency is providing consular assistance to the victim’s family. “We offer our sincerest condolences to the family and loved ones on their loss.”
