Teacher groomed high school student for her boyfriend, Nebraska cops say
A high school teacher and her boyfriend are accused of sex trafficking one of her students, Nebraska police say.
Elizabeth Jamie Love, who has worked for the Educational Service Unit No. 11 in Holdrege “for a number of years” is also accused of grooming the juvenile student, according to an Oct. 24 news release by the Holdrege Police Department.
An investigation began when the high school student “reported inappropriate interactions” she observed or had with Love and her boyfriend, Jarid “Jack” Krause, police said.
The girl told investigators she overheard a phone call in which Krause told Love he wanted to engage in sex acts with the high schooler, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by the Nebraska Television Network.
Later, Love drove the girl to Love’s home in Holdrege, and Krause led her to an upstairs bedroom, where the girl told investigators she was propositioned for sex, police said, according to the news outlet. His request was reportedly declined, and the girl left.
The girl was given $100 by Love to stay quiet about the encounter, but the teacher told officers it was not “hush money,” but rather money for her to buy a phone, People reported, citing the affidavit.
Krause, 43, and Love, 36, had talked with one another about the student since April, text messages revealed, according to People. The 16-year-old student said she had formed “a close relationship” with the speech therapist beginning when she was in seventh grade.
Love and Krause were charged with sex trafficking of a minor, a charge that carries a maximum sentence of life in prison if they are found guilty, according to police. Love was also charged with sexual grooming by a school employee.
ESU 11 told KSNB that Love was placed on administrative leave.
As part of her job, she traveled to as many as 15 schools throughout south-central Nebraska, police said.
“While the investigation into this matter is still ongoing and law enforcement is not aware of any inappropriate interactions with other current or former students, the Holdrege Police Department is interested in speaking with anyone who has any additional information about this current allegation or who may have had prior interactions with Ms. Love or Mr. Krause, which they now believe is suspicious,” police said in the news release.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 308-995-4407.
Holdrege is about a 210-mile drive southwest from Omaha.
