Snowmobiler gets stuck in snow, then hits tour guide helping free him, NH officials say
A 65-year-old snowmobiler accidentally hit a tour guide trying to free him from deep snow in New Hampshire, wildlife officers said.
The incident happened at about 2:40 p.m. Feb. 19 in Lincoln on Primary Trail 156, the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department Law Enforcement Division said in a Facebook post.
A Georgia man was riding a rental snowmobile when he got caught in snow as he tried to turn around, officials said.
The 32-year-old tour guide tried to help free him, but the man accidentally “hit the throttle” and struck the guide, officers said.
The guide was taken to a hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Wildlife officers said it was the second snowmobile accident to happen that afternoon on the same trail.
Earlier that day at about 12:30 p.m., a 57-year-old man from Massachusetts was on a guided tour when he rolled his snowmobile, wildlife officials said.
He had serious injuries and was taken to a hospital.
“In both of these cases, the involved snowmobiles were rentals and their operators had limited snowmobiling experience,” wildlife officials said.
Lincoln is in northern New Hampshire.
