First responders were dispatched to Glenn Flint Lake in Putman County on Sunday, Jan. 26, for a report of a golf cart breaking through the ice, according to an Indiana Department of Natural Resources news release.
Jeffrey Nowak, who was driving the golf cart, was pulled from the water, and first responders “began life-saving efforts.”
Nowak, of Greencastle, was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, officials said.
The department said Jan. 27 the incident remains under investigation.
As reported by WXIN, Nowak’s death was not the only ice-related fatality in the region over the weekend. A 16-year-old died after being found unresponsive inside an ice fishing shanty, the news outlet reported.
