Deputy and daughters, ages 1 and 4, die in crash with teen driver, Missouri cops say
Four people are dead after an off-duty deputy and his daughters crashed with a teenage driver in southeastern Missouri, police told news outlets.
The 41-year-old driver of a Jeep “lost control,” crossed the center line and slammed into a 2004 Dodge Stratus half a mile west of New Madrid at 4:35 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, a Missouri State Highway Patrol report shows.
The Jeep driver was an off-duty deputy with the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Office, the highway patrol told KSBI. His daughters, ages 1 and 4, were riding in the vehicle with him.
A 17-year-old identified as Nevaeh Debose was behind the wheel of the Dodge, KFVS reported.
There were no survivors, and all four victims were pronounced dead at the scene, according to troopers.
Officials haven’t said what may have caused the deputy, who wasn’t publicly identified, to lose control of his vehicle.
Officials with the New Madrid County School District announced on Dec. 18 that two of its students had died.
“This loss deeply impacts our entire school family, and we want to assure you that we are here for each other during this time of grief,” the district said.
Both the deputy and Debose were residents of nearby Lilbourn, the crash report shows.
Lilbourn has a population of about 1,000 people and is a roughly 170-mile drive south from St. Louis.
