Rescuers in Hawaii continued searching the water and coastline on Dec. 13 for a missing 32-year-old woman, roughly two days after she was swept away while in the water, officials said.
Kauai officials identified the woman as Lauren M. Cameron of Anchorage. Rescuers were looking for her off Hanakapiai Beach, according to a Dec. 13 news release from the County of Kauai. The beach is on the Na Pali Coast on the island of Kauai. It’s accessible via the Kalalau Trail, a popular hike known for its stunning views.
Cameron’s younger brother, Jacob Neal, told KHON2 that his sister was on vacation with her boyfriend and was hiking the trail.
Kauai officials said rescuers first responded a little after 3 p.m. on Dec. 11 to a report of a missing swimmer at the beach.
“According to reports, Cameron entered the water and was swept into the ocean by strong currents,” officials said.
The Coast Guard in a Dec. 12 news release said Cameron was “last seen wearing a blue bikini and hanging onto the rocks 100 yards west of Hanakapiai Beach before she was swept into the surf.”
Neal told KHON2 that “I would just like to see her again, let her know how much she’s loved.”
