Fugitive from Texas shoots and kills 70-year-old man in carjacking, Georgia cops say
A wanted man from Texas is accused of shooting and killing a man in a carjacking outside an Atlanta liquor store, police in Georgia say.
Jaylen Mosley, 19, is charged with murder, armed robbery and aggravated assault in connection with the Nov. 30 incident, according to the Atlanta Police Department.
Records show Mosley is also facing a fugitive from justice charge out of Harris County, Texas.
Officers were called at 6:40 p.m. Saturday about a shooting at Banks Liquor Store and found a 70-year-old man who had been shot, police said in a news release.
Medics took the man to a hospital, where he died from his injuries, police said.
Authorities haven’t released his identity.
Investigators believe Mosley shot the man while trying to steal his car. He was arrested a short time later.
“I always saw people around here, but I never saw violence or nothing like that, so it was really a surprise to me,” Herman Baaqar, who frequents the liquor store, told WAGA.
“That’s a pitiful thought there,” he added. “Our children always looking around to rob us, and we the elders.”
The 19-year-old faces multiple charges, including first-degree carjacking and possession of a knife or firearm during the commission of a felony, online records show.
The fugitive from justice charge stems from a March 1 arrest in Harris County, in which Mosley was jailed on a felony criminal mischief charge and released after posting bail, according to Harris County District Clerk records.
Authorities issued a warrant for his arrest on Oct. 4 after he failed to appear in court, the district clerk’s office confirmed to McClatchy News.
Mosley remained in custody at the Fulton County Jail as of Dec. 2, records show.
