Accused auto thief shows up at courthouse in another stolen vehicle, Colorado cops say
A man with three previous auto theft convictions faces a new charge after he was accused of showing up to a courthouse meeting in another stolen vehicle, Colorado sheriff’s officials reported.
Deputies noticed the man, who was not publicly identified, entering the county courthouse in Golden on security video, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said in an Oct. 10 news release.
He was there for a meeting with his probation officer on one of his previous cases, sheriff’s officials said.
Deputies discovered he had arrived in another stolen vehicle and arrested him as he left the courthouse, sheriff’s officials said.
He told deputies he had borrowed the vehicle from a friend, the sheriff’s office said.
“He may have arrived in the stolen car…. but he left in one of ours,” deputies said.
Golden is about a 15-mile drive west from Denver.
