Fight involving parents and youth football coaches ends with two shot, Indiana cops say
A fight involving parents and youth football coaches ended with two people shot in a parking lot, Indiana police told news outlets.
Indianapolis police responded to a shooting call at 10:18 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at Cardinal Ritter High School on the city’s northwest side and arrived to find two men wounded in a parking lot, WXIN reported.
Someone opened fire during a fight between coaches and parents after one of the youth football teams lost and got upset, police said, adding that the children who played were all younger than teenagers, the station reported.
“It’s a very sad and unfortunate ending to a football game,” Capt. Rob Rider told WTHR. “Families and kids should be able to go and enjoy a little league football game and not expect to get shot.”
Rider said the shooting had “nothing to do” with the high school, and the fighting happened outside the stadium, the outlet reported.
Both men were taken to a hospital for treatment, the Indianapolis Star reported. One is in critical condition and the other is stable.
Police have not identified the shooter, the newspaper reported.
