Hiker ends up stranded in ‘precarious location’ in California mountains, rescuers say
A hiker was rescued after finding themselves “stuck in a precarious location” in the California mountains, firefighters said.
The hiker, who was not hurt, ended up stranded about 75 feet down a ridge in Griffith Park the evening of Sunday, Sept. 22, the Los Angeles Fire Department said in a news release.
Park rangers used a rope system to lower a rescuer to the hiker, firefighters said.
Firefighters said they made their way on scene as rangers were hoisting the hiker from the ridge.
Rescuers brought the hiker to the top of the ridge and checked them for injuries, according to firefighters.
Griffith Park, nestled in the eastern Santa Monica Mountain range about 6 miles north of downtown Los Angeles, is one of the country’s “largest municipal parks with urban wilderness areas,” according to the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks. Elevation in the park ranges from 384 to 1,625 feet, according to the department.
There are multiple trails in the park, spanning from easy to hard in difficulty, according to the hiking website AllTrails.
