Dog impaled trying to climb wire fence in Arizona. Now comes his ‘beautiful ending’
When an Arizona dog tried to climb a fence and impaled himself, his future was uncertain.
Technicians with the Arizona Humane Society found the severely injured dog on July 31 after getting a call from Phoenix police, the nonprofit said in a Sept. 18 news release.
The wire fence had disemboweled the 2-year-old German shepherd mix, the nonprofit said.
He was rushed to the rescue’s trauma hospital, “where veterinarians removed more than five feet of intestine” during an emergency surgery, the humane society said.
“We all held our breaths for this dog because we just were not sure of what the outcome was going to be,” Kelsey Dickerson, an AHS spokesperson, told KPNX.
“With a guarded prognosis,” the dog, named Junum, spent a month in the shelter’s ICU receiving care daily, according to the rescue.
“His spirits uplifted and you could tell he was feeling much better,” the nonprofit said in an Instagram video.
And, “despite all odds,” Junum “miraculously” pulled through, the nonprofit said.
“He is energetic. He is friendly. He is loving,” Dickerson told KPNX. “We just all were so shocked, so elated, so happy that he survived.”
After he was up for adoption for a little more than a week, he was adopted, the nonprofit said in the Instagram video.
Junum now has a new home with a Buckeye family.
“What a beautiful ending for this baby,” an Instagram user commented.
