A Texas woman saved her brother by opening fire on a group of people as he was being beaten with a baseball bat, police told news outlets.

The attack happened on San Antonio’s south side at about 2 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, the San Antonio Police Department told WOAI.

Moments earlier, the man and several family members were at a bar but were told to leave, police told the station. They did as asked and drove away from the business in separate vehicles but soon discovered they were followed.

According to police, there had been a fight at the bar, the San Antonio Express-News reported.

After leaving, the family members pulled over to talk to each other, the newspaper reported. Soon after they stopped, a group that followed them pulled up nearby and the 35-year-old victim was attacked with a baseball bat, police told the outlet.

The man’s sister pulled out a gun and shot at the attackers, sending them running, KSAT reported.

Her brother was injured and taken to a hospital for treatment, police told the station. Investigators haven’t said if anyone was injured by the gunfire.
