A Pennsylvania man threatened to beat his little brother with a pole unless his girlfriend agreed to take him back, police said.

Officers responded July 26 to reports of a domestic disturbance at a Quarryville residence, according to a July 28 news release from the Quarryville Borough Police Department.

Officers learned that a 23-year-old resident and his girlfriend had recently broken up and the incident arose from an ultimatum he gave her: Get back together, or he’d beat his 12-year-old brother, police said.

McClatchy News is not naming the man to protect the identify of his brother.

While video chatting with his ex-girlfriend, the man “armed himself with a metal pole” and confined the boy to a bathroom, police said.

Another family member called the police while this was occurring, authorities said.

The man was charged with assault and is being held at Lancaster County Prison, court records show.

He is due back in court for a preliminary hearing Aug. 1.

Quarryville is about a 65-mile drive west from Philadelphia.
