Missing teen found in trunk of car was forced into sex trafficking, California cops say
A man was arrested after a teenager missing for weeks was found in the trunk of a car, California police say.
The girl was found in a car at a San Jose home March 25, a month after she was reported missing out of Palo Alto, the San Jose Police Department said in a June 3 news release.
While she was missing, a man held the teenager “against her will, threatened and forced to engage in commercial sex acts in exchange for money,” police said.
Through investigation, police said detectives identified Jolaun Canton, 22, as a suspect.
Police said San Jose officers pulled Canton over during an unrelated traffic stop on April 20, and he ran from officers, who chased after him and apprehended him.
Canton was arrested on multiple counts, including evading officers and felon in possession of a firearm, according to police.
After being booked into jail, police said, the district attorney’s office added child sex trafficking charges.
Canton is being held without bail, online jail records show.
