5-year-old shot to death in parked car at 3:30 a.m., IL cops say. She was ‘full of life’
A 5-year-old girl was shot and killed while she was sitting in a parked car at 3:30 a.m., Chicago police and news outlets reported.
Reign Ware was in the car parked in the Near West Side neighborhood, WLS reported. At least 60 shell casings were found in the area, the Sun-Times reported.
Reign was struck in the torso, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. She died shortly before 4 a.m. on May 26.
A 24-year-old man was shot in the leg and taken to the hospital, multiple reports say.
McClatchy News reached out to the Chicago Police Department for further information on May 28 but did receive an immediate response.
“It has broken our heart completely,” Reign’s mother, Raven Adams, said in a GoFundMe. “Her (9-year-old) sister is devastated.”
Her grieving mother said Reign loved playing with her older sister, according to WLS, and would often watch dance videos on social media.
“She was just full of life,” Adams said, according to the Sun-Times. “She just wanted to live, she just wanted to be a kid.”
As of May 28, no arrests have been made, WBBM reported.
“I just want justice for my baby,” Adams told the Sun-Times. “The violence just has to stop. How long is this going to go on? Until everybody kills everybody? Just let people live.”
